The Morning Mayor Local News Talk for the Central Valley 840 AM The Patriot 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Daily (209) 527-8484 November 3, 2008 The Sabatino Report This week on the Morning Mayor. Tuesday, John Michael Flint Wednesday, Martha Carlton Magana Thursday, Supervisor Jim DeMartini Of course, we want you there daily at 10. When you listen, talk turns to action. *** The law is not the law. In Stanislaus County it depends on the situation. *** Mark Vasche wrote another column Sunday. He still offers his opinions. Vasche is right on when he says the Bee is “conflicted. concerned, and confused”. You might not know, but Vasche was part of the prosecution team against the 24th Mayor of Modesto. He refused to honor a subpoeana at the Mayors trial and lied to the California Newspaper Association about his role in the prosecution. Vasche will not “set it straight” and apparently he does not intend to resign. *** Vasche is unwilling to disclose the advertising revenue from local government. It is reported that the 24th Mayor of Modesto and that council cut the city advertising budget with the Bee by $90,000 . It is also reported that the county spends $265,000 a year advertising with the Bee. Maybe the county could have used that money to educate us on Measure S. As near as we can tell, the Bee got a half page political ad. *** Sheriff Adam Christianson and the county are being sued by four women county employees. One wonders if Christianson feels it is much to do about nothing. Case number 628471 and 621814. How about an opinion by editor Judy Sly. *** Whatever happened to editor Mike Dunbar? *** Christianson has been paying his employee, Mayor Ridenour, $23 dollars an hour without requiring the mayor to show up for work. The matter was to be turned over to a sheriff deputy for investigation. Bee reporter Adam Ashton and opinion page editor Judy Sly reported that there is no wrong doing and the sheriff thanked Judy. At least they could verify the signatures that appear on the timecards. For more information go to www.stantaxwatch.com . *** Check over the endorsements for Measure S. Remember some of these people want you to tax yourself without telling you who will contol the money. If the sales tax suppoters cannot tell the truth during the campaign, how can you trust them with $700 million dollars. *** The Stanislaus Council of Governments and your representatives on the nine cities in the county gave Measure S $400,000 to “educate” you on the sales tax. The education process consisting of two mailers could not have cost more than $150,000. How was the remaining $250,000 spent? Since Mayor Ridenour and the Modesto City Council contributed $160,000 of your tax dollars to Measure S, and since George Petrulakis wrote the new charter to make the mayor more accountable we need some accountability.
