Dear friends, I hope you saw the TV broadcast of the Modesto city council tonight.  Besides squandering millions of your tax dollars, they passed a law that takes away your property rights and gives it to your neighbors. 

                             Elected officials have 2 choices.  They either take power away from the bureaucrats and give it back to the People, or they steal power from the People and vest it in the bureaucrats.  This council has, for the last 6 years, systematically stolen rights and powers from YOU and given it to unelected bureaucrats and functionaries.

                             Watch the reruns of this meeting.  You will be amazed.  You can no longer do what you want with your property.  You can only do what your neighbor approves of.  That includes planting or cutting trees, painting, roof colors, and landscaping.  If your neighbor does not like it, you can not do it.  What is totally aberrant, apparently not one of these elected officials even read the proposed law – Councilwoman Olson admitted she had not read it – but they bantered about like school kids, and in a very confused flurry of votes, passed laws that give your neighbors the right to tell you what you can, and CAN NOT do with your property.

                             Our very lame city council, who is now earning good pay, is simply not up to the task of governing.  However, we now have the capacity to elect council people from 6 districts.  Your neighborhood is in one of those districts.  Please, please find a smart (we lack smarts on our current council), ethical, honest, and common sense person to run for city council.  There are 5 seats up for grabs, and you must find someone from your district to really represent you and your neighbors.  You must find someone who understands what Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness means. 

                             Our city has been victimized by people like the ones on the current council for the last 25 years.  Your utility rates, your police “protection”, your streets, your trees, your kid’s safety and your incomes have been short changed by a bunch of cardboard cut outs that simply do what the city manager tells them to do.  You MUST find brave and sturdy people to run from your district.  You MUST turn this city around. 

                             Read the BEE, either on paper or on the internet, and see what havoc this band of 7 has wreaked on us all.  Thanks, Dave
