MODESTO BUS BARN FIASCO

Good morning friends.  If you have not read about the Modesto city council’s most recent fiscal fiasco, today’s BEE story tells it all.  If you have not read it, the summary would go like this:

1.     The council originally contracted for a bus barn about 7 years ago.  The design cost alone, was $590,000.  The total cost of design and build-out was supposed to be $9,500,000.

2.     During the next TWO years, they made many changes and increased the size by 75%.

3.     The architect firm told them (in 2006) the changes would cost another $354,000.

4.     The council was horrified, and told them that was WAY too much for just changes...and a 75% increase...and fired them.

5.     Now, in Oct 2009, they made final arrangements for final design and administration of same, for a mere $852,112.

Please remember, they desperately needed this barn in 2002.  It is now 2009, and they still have no barn.  Think of the deferred maintenance on all our busses.  After all, they have no way to maintain them...

Not only that, the original cost of $9.5 Million has been carefully monitored and wise decisions have increased it to...

`                           only $17.3 Million.  That is only an 82% increase over the original projected cost.

This is exactly why so many of us say this council is totally unable to make good decisions.  They totally disrespect the Taxpayer’s funds.  They are unable to appreciate fiscal restraint or fiscal responsibility.  In short, they are lousy managers and make ridiculous decisions.

Please remember this when voting for council and mayor.  Thanks, Dave

OH, It Is Only An Accident Mr. Prescott

Three Taser deaths are three too many. These three people did not deserve to die at the hands of law enforcement personnel. Of course the DA is going to clear the officer’s of any wrong doing. They are all in the same club. These three deaths are going to cost Stanislaus County a great deal of money before the dust settles. We all will share in the cost of these three deaths. It is a black mark on our  law enforcement that must be adequately addressed. These three deaths point to a need for a safer jail environment, and less harmful methods of restraint. Outside authorities need to step in and investigate thoroughly why these three people had to die.

KRISTIN OLSEN OWNED BY ZAGARIS POLITICAL MACHINE

By following the money trail, it is quite reasonable to assume that Kristin Olsen is owned by the Zagaris Political Machine. She is as far from being an independent voice on our Modesto City Council as she can get. Everything has been set up for this young lady to be Mike Zagaris's shining star on the Modesto City Council. She is on track to be heavily funded in an attempt to be our next Mayor. All this is created in order for the developers to have complete control over our city council. The taxpayers are the eternal losers in this arrangement. Just look at how much money was not spent by the developers for infrastructure for Village One. The Developers made all sorts of promises, but in the end did not live up to their obligations. All of this was made possible by a Modesto City Council that has Mr. Zagaris's wishes above the best interests of the people of Modesto. Get wise Modesto, see through this manipulation by BIG MONEY. Kristin Olsen certainly does not deserve your vote.            Tux

I think it has been three years now, on 9/11 I lost my best friend Mike Eastin. Mike and I grew up together, played trumpet together in the band, even shared the same occupation. Mike was a good best friend. He was always there when I needed him. Mike took his own life on 9/11. I could not ask how he did it, I only was told he took his own life. Mike and I had let long distance affect our friendship. I had not heard from Mike for several years, then I read his obituary. I wish every day that I had kept closer watch on my dear friend. It is important to keep in touch with our friends, and to help prevent these sort of tragedies. My thoughts are with you my dear friend. I hope you have found a better place.  Your Best Friend Loves You

SERPA ONLY MID DIRECTOR DESERVING OF RE ELECTION

Mike Serpa is the only MID Director that has consistently held the best interests of the rate payers as his top priority. The recent decision by the MID to forgo further rate increases was done to save MID political necks. Do not be fooled by this temporary concern for the rate payers. As soon as the incumbants get re-elected, they will return to a pattern of rate increases that will further put a strain on our local economy. We are already paying more for electricity to the MID than comparable customers are paying to PG&E. What used to be an advantage for Modesto has now become a disadvantage. It is more unlikely that a large employer will want to pay a premium for their electrical service, and they will continue to locate their businesses in areas other than Modesto. The voters of Modesto have shot themselves in the foot far too many times re-electing MID Directors that do not represent our best interests. Vote for Mike Serpa, and make the rest of them go home.                   Tux
