Good morning friends. If you have not read about the Modesto city council’s most recent fiscal fiasco, today’s BEE story tells it all. If you have not read it, the summary would go like this: 1. The council originally contracted for a bus barn about 7 years ago. The design cost alone, was $590,000. The total cost of design and build-out was supposed to be $9,500,000. 2. During the next TWO years, they made many changes and increased the size by 75%. 3. The architect firm told them (in 2006) the changes would cost another $354,000. 4. The council was horrified, and told them that was WAY too much for just changes...and a 75% increase...and fired them. 5. Now, in Oct 2009, they made final arrangements for final design and administration of same, for a mere $852,112. Please remember, they desperately needed this barn in 2002. It is now 2009, and they still have no barn. Think of the deferred maintenance on all our busses. After all, they have no way to maintain them... Not only that, the original cost of $9.5 Million has been carefully monitored and wise decisions have increased it to... ` only $17.3 Million. That is only an 82% increase over the original projected cost. This is exactly why so many of us say this council is totally unable to make good decisions. They totally disrespect the Taxpayer’s funds. They are unable to appreciate fiscal restraint or fiscal responsibility. In short, they are lousy managers and make ridiculous decisions. Please remember this when voting for council and mayor. Thanks, Dave
